Mr Rogers – The Truth

As we continue our discussion about truth during the holidays, I was captivated by an article sent to me by a friend entitled, “Mister Rogers: A Presence Transformed by Prayer,” written by Amy Hollingsworth.

She writes, “It isn’t difficult to see why a man with this level of discipline (having described his daily routines and prayerful disciplines) would be able to cultivate an interior life that would inspire awe in others. He once asked me, ‘You know how when you find somebody who you know is in touch with the truth, how you want to be in the presence of that person?’ People felt that way about him. I’ve seen cameramen on assignment in the Neighborhood,” Hollingsworth writes, “moved to tears by his kindness. One woman even remarked to her husband upon meeting Fred for the first time, ‘I think I just had a religious experience.’ He had that unique, transforming presence: Mother Teresa in a cardigan.”

After sharing the truth that prayer was the foundational essence of Mr. Rogers’ life, she quotes him as he shares his sole purpose and desire. “I always pray that through whatever we produce (whatever we say and do) some word that is heard might ultimately be God’s word. That’s my main concern…”

So dear friends, as you continue your search for truth during the holidays, as you seek Your Refreshed Life, consider reading Amy Hollingsworth’s book. Let’s go see the upcoming movie, “Beautiful Day” in hopes of finding inspiration to walk and live in the truth as we reach out to all those around us…many searching to know what is real and discover truth amidst the glitz and fanfare that often disguises the holidays.  May we live in the truth of genuine Thanksgiving to God and the Christmas celebration of Jesus Christ, Savior of the world.  May we extend His truth to all we meet!
