4 Ways to Hear God’s Voice Part 2

Even now as you read this, I am probably packing and taping boxes in preparation for our move to God’s next life appointment. Reen will be a Pastor in Maryland using the Christian Counseling degree God led him to acquire so many years ago. As I wrote in a previous book, “There is nothing wasted in God’s economy.”  It never ceases to amaze me how you can look back in your life and see how what appeared to be random incidents, specific education, surprising relationships, and unexpected events all weave into this amazing tapestry as God draws on our past to create His plan for our future.

But that’s the topic for another day! Today we are continuing our series on the “4 Ways to Hear God’s Voice.” Last week we discussed hearing God’s voice when we read His Word.

Here is an excerpt from Reen’s letter to friends explaining our move. You will see in blue print the next two ways we hear the voice of God.

(Even more interesting is that the day after I sent this response off, our landlord informed us that our lease ends on 2/29 and would not be renewed because the owner is selling the condo. So it confirmed we are moving somewhere!)

For years God has been preparing me for full-time ministry. Having earned a master’s degree in Christian Counseling, demonstrating a long background in ministry in the workplace, and receiving endorsements from numerous pastors as well as the advice of others, when this Maryland pastor received my response to his open position, he responded within 24 hours.

So what are the next two ways God speaks?

2. God Speaks through His Orchestration of Circumstances- Many times in the Bible we see circumstances that are clearly orchestrated by God to accomplish His will. Reen and I have experienced even recently, that when actively seeking God’s will, He alone opens the doors in His time and His way to accomplish His direction for our lives. We learn in the Bible, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. “ (Romans 8:28)

We see this clearly when Reen received the letter from our landlord telling us we must move out of our condo by the end of the month. We received that the day after sending off the response. If God had allowed us to know we lost our housing before we had any ideas concerning where we might go and what we might do, He knew it would cause us undue stress and upset.  He spared us this trauma by allowing us to receive that letter after He already began giving us direction and hope for the future. He is our compassionate and loving God, knowing exactly how best to care for us.

We see the third way God speaks to us as well…

3. God Speaks through the Counsel of Others- When seeking to know God’s will it is always wise to discuss things with spiritual people you trust who can also hear from God’s Spirit to offer wise counsel. We are told, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)

Reen not only discussed this with his best friend on this earth (me😊) but sought out others he trusted as he responded to God’s call to pastoral ministry. And God supplied letters written by pastors in the past that even then encouraged him that this could very well be God’s path for his life.

So as you move confidently into 2020, seek to hear God’s voice daily. You can do this by reading His Word, attentively observing how Gold is working in the circumstances in your life and seeking out the counsel of others you trust spiritually.

Next week we’ll look at the final way you can hear God’s voice, listening to his still small voice within!
