Day 6 – Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne

Meals to prepare, children to teach, presents to buy, decorations to hang…so many demands and deadlines as we all cope with our rearranged world due to COVID.

This carol is all about making room in our hearts and lives for Jesus. And making room has so much to do with taking time…time reading His Word to know and understand His character and desires…time in conversation with Him in prayer…time ordering our lives so we are not overwhelmed with the non-essentials but instead focused on His plan and purposes for our lives.

Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem’s home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Heaven’s arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.

O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Thou camest, O Lord, with the living word
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn, and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying “Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee.”
My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

Take a moment as you listen today and ask the Lord if there is a way you can make more room in your heart for Him.  A deeply profound truth Jesus spoke when praying to His Father gives us all an example to follow. Though there were so many people Jesus never saw, helped, taught, or healed while on earth, He said clearly, “ Father, I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work You gave me to do.” (John 17:4)

Are you making room enough in Your heart for Jesus so that He can speak to you, help you identify what really matters in your life, and bring Him glory by completing the work He alone has given you to do? Let’s join today in humbling ourselves to God’s will, praying we each find peace in knowing His divine purpose in our lives. And ask that He give us Holy Spirit wisdom and direction to order our time accordingly.

May you be abundantly blessed as you make more room in your heart for Jesus today!

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser…  Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John15:1,4-5)
