What Do You Drink?

Reen recently realized that drinking an energy drink full of caffeine when he is tired (no names mentioned here but one represents something you might see in a horror movie) is a problem. To use an artificial stimulant to pump you up and keep you going is not only detrimental to your health but becomes additive to your body.

If you are a coffee addict this doesn’t mean all your coffee must disappear but so many of us are drinking far too many coffees, sodas, and caffeinated drinks. Some coffee and teas have proven to have excellent health benefits but only when consumed in moderation.

Here is a list of drinks to avoid, especially if you are trying to lose weight:

  • Soda
  • Diet Sodas
  • Vitamin water ( includes caffeine and other additives)
  • Energy drinks

The high amounts of sugar are the problem and don’t get me started on the poison of Aspartame (fake sugar) in diet drinks. The dangers include kidney function decline, preterm delivery, skin problems, cancer, seizures, Alzheimer’s Disease heart problems, mood swings, brain forgetfulness, and the list goes on and on. Google it for more! Check your drink label for ingredients before you buy any drink. You’ll be surprised what you find!

So, what can you drink?

  1. Water is always #1. Be sure to use filtered water though to protect for yourself form anything in your area water supply that is detrimental to your health.  Add a little unsweetened fruit juice if you need extra taste. Other possibilities include lime, lemon, or oranges, watermelon and rosemary, apple slices and cinnamon sticks, strawberry and basil, raspberry and lime, as well as pineapple and mint.
  2. Tea and Tea Juice
  3. Sparkling water and seltzers (examples-Perrier and Pellegrino)
  4. Freshly-made juices

As warm weather is on the way, be sure to stay hydrated. Otherwise, your body suffers, and you will as well with headaches, weakness, and general nausea. Did you know the body can’t go more than 3 days without water? Start drinking water for better health today!
