Don’t Miss “Joy to the World”

As I walked through Hobby Lobby this week, I found myself immersed in Christmas. Surrounded by lovely red and green decorations, nativity representations, and “just the right“ gift ideas, I felt thankful for this special season of celebration. I remembered that God loves celebration and the lyrics and melodies of beloved Christmas carols sung their sweet messages through my mind and heart. Even though we’re unable to spend Christmas this year with family and friends, I felt joy. Joy that Jesus loves us and is always with us. This year above all else we celebrate Him.

As we discussed joy this month, I was reminded of one of my favorite Christmas carols, “Joy to the World.” Written by Isaac Watts in 1719, it was not originally intended to be a Christmas carol. Inspired by Psalm 98, the hymn was Watts’ interpretation of the psalmist’s exuberant praise for God’s salvation. Over time, the melody became synonymous with Christmas, because it captured the essence of the season’s celebration and joy.

The lyrics of “Joy to the World” hold a timeless message that resonates with the values of love, gratitude, and thanksgiving to God. The carol’s jubilant proclamation of joy is a reminder of the hope found in the birth of Jesus Christ and the life, Your Refreshed Life, He has given you.

Please join Reen and me in celebrating the timeless joy embedded in the lyrics and melodies of “Joy to the World,” a joy found only in Jesus.

May His joy be yours this Christmas!
