light in the darkness

Light in the Darkness

Tears stream down my face right now, and I confess I rarely cry. I listened for at least the 10th time to the song sung by 12-year-old Skyler Derrington entitled, “Mystic Hallelujah.”

Only last week I spoke with someone who struggled with why God would allow such a horrific event as the death of the girls at Mystic Camp in Texas. Even then my only thoughts and explanation was we are placed on this earth to come to know and then represent Jesus Christ, fulfilling His plan for our lives. We each have an expiration date.  Only God knows the length of days He has apportioned for us on earth.

But whatever the length of life, if we come to know Him our home in heaven is secure. We need to live the remainder of life each day desiring to fulfill His purpose for placing us here at this time, at this place, in this generation. If we do that, we have accomplished the task we’ve been given. As He told Jeremiah, “ I know the plans I have for you, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” ( Jeremiah 29:11).

When I heard this song, I could only weep and send it to every individual I could think of because in these lyrics she has summed up the whole of life…living, serving, and loving Jesus before we join Him in heaven.

I heard there was a huge flood
We were washed in Jesus blood…
You showed us love as only from God up above…
We spread His light, His love, His Word…
We did our best. We left a mark, a light that shines within the dark…
Even though it wasn’t long, we stand before the Lord in songs with nothing left on our tongues but Hallelujah.

May we do the same.

Amen!
