You Can Be White as Snow?

Lifting my eyes from the computer keyboard, I look out at a winter wonderland of white. The snow storm blew through last night and left everything covered in white. What was a barren landscape of death yesterday with browned trees, grey skies and black rotting foliage, is now a pristine, crystal covered world of pure, glistening white snow.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all that is dark in our lives… misspoken words, judgmental attitudes, wrong actions, and regrettable mistakes could be suddenly covered up like the white of a fresh snowfall? Imagine it. The brown, grey, and black remnants of our life could suddenly be forever clean.

Amazingly, this is the promise God offers us if we will simply place our faith in His Son. If we receive His crucifixion as paying the death penalty for our sin, the Bible tells us “For the wages (outcome and consequences) of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Many of us believe this. We believe Jesus forgives our sins. But few really believe the truth that our sin- past, present, and future- is permanently covered by the blood Jesus shed on our behalf. We have a hard time embracing the concept that God actually sees us as only white as snow.

But look at God’s words, “Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do what is right… Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord, Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be white like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.”(Isaiah 1:17-19)

Let’s continue this next week. How can we believe forgiveness frees us completely of sin when we all keep on sinning? And how can we know that God only sees us white as snow? We’ll look at “3 Steps to Freedom Within” next week.
