“How Do You Begin Each Day?”
Many coined 2020 as “the year the world stood still” and “the year the world forgot.” I doubt any of us will forget this past year, and yet even now it seems as we unmask, restaurants re-open, and event stadiums fill again, time is moving forward.
While the world seemingly stood still, we spent so much time at home we became increasingly aware of the way we spend our time. We learned new ways to manage time more efficiently. This is a good thing. Why? Because time matters. It is interesting that our Creator is timeless, unrestrained as we are by time’s boundaries.
And yet, He placed us in a world with regularity created by the sun and moon’s rising and setting, the repetition of seasons, and entropy- the ongoing decay of all living things until our time runs out. So how can we most effectively spend our time?
How do you use the minutes, hours, days and years allotted to you by your Creator God? We are told, “Lord, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
I have a tip for you. If you awaken every morning and greet your Creator with this prayer, you will never feel your time is misspent.
“Lord Jesus, I give you this day. I don’t know what is ahead or what You have in mind for this day, but I want to lay my head down tonight knowing I fulfilled Your will for this day. In Your mercy and by Your grace, please order my day so that everything You wanted accomplished is completed. This may not be everything on my list or everything I think is so important. But may the day be filled with everything You think is important…every plan You desire. And may I accomplish Your purposes with Your Holy Spirit’s power instead of relying on my own limited resources. On my last day, may l know I, like Jesus, brought You glory on earth by completing the work You gave me alone to do. (John 17:4) Thank you.
