Prepared to Soar

It’s hard to live in Colorado Springs and not think about flying. Especially when Linda and I live across the valley from the Air Force Academy, complete with its own airport (named after General Benjamin O. Davis, a Tuskegee airman in WWII.) Surprisingly, this is one of the busiest airfields in the world!

Every day we watch in amazement as countless single engine aircraft tow gliders up into the lofty skies over the mountains and at the proper altitude release them to soar almost effortlessly. While gliders are incredibly aerodynamic aircraft, without a tow into the air, they can do nothing but glisten on the runway.

For many years I have had a successful real estate career, but my heart was not fully engaged. Over the past several years I’ve been pursuing my true passion—writing. Thanks to Linda’s excellent tutelage, support, and encouragement I’ve become an excellent freelance magazine writer, author, and newspaper columnist with a solid portfolio. We believe that moving to Colorado for Linda’s full-time job with the Navigators is the “tow” God is going to use to launch me to soar professionally on new heights and serve God more powerfully.

And like the glider, it is a matter of the right timing to be untethered from the towing aircraft. Being laid up with Covid and pneumonia for the first three weeks of living here was certainly inconvenient. But as good friend and prayer partner Doug Wimsatt wisely shared, “Perhaps the right opportunity is not quite ready for you yet.” Those apt words encouraged me greatly!

So, dear friends, what areas do you sense God has been working on in your life? Maybe you’ve been slowly pursuing that graduate degree? Or you’ve been planning on opening your own business? Perhaps you sense a strong leading to teach a Bible study but have never done it?

Regardless of your situation, take heart! If you are in a “holding pattern”, be patient, prayerful, and watchful. Just because you do not see any direct action moving you forward does not mean that God is not at work on your behalf. Ephesians 2:10 is a verse that inspires great hope and encouragement that God has a plan much greater than we could ever imagine,

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”

Be encouraged and assured that at the right time He will open doors that no man can close(Rev 3:7). While you wait to be released to soar, consider spending time prayerfully considering this verse in different translations and I am sure you will feel confident that you do not wait in vain.

Get ready for a new move of God in your life. If we can help you or encourage you in any way, we’d love to be there for you. Just reach out and let’s talk!
