Help Me Get One More!
Hi, it’s Reen writing again. “Help me get one more!” was the heartfelt prayer the unarmed medic and conscientious objector Private Desmond Doss fervently prayed more than seventy-five times after the Japanese defenders fiercely repulsed his unit from Hacksaw Ridge (depicted in the film of the same name).
During this bloodiest battle of the Pacific in WWII, on the island of Okinawa, Doss, a Seventh Day Adventist, personally recovered seventy-five men from the brutal battlefield and lowered them single-handedly by rope to friendly lines 400 feet below this craggy escarpment! For his acts of incredible heroism, he received the Medal of Honor and became the only conscientious objector in WWII to win this award.
WOW!! We each need to possess the same fervor, passion, and total reliance from God to “help me get one more,” because there is a war for the soul of every person on earth. As it says in Proverbs 11:30 AMP,
…he who is wise captures and wins souls [for God—he gathers them for eternity].
Unless we intentionally speak into the lives of our friends, family, and neighbors, they remain hopelessly dying on the spiritual battlefield. So, how do we offer spiritual first aid?
Like Desmond Doss, we need to fervently call upon God daily for divine help in “getting one more.” Prayer asks God to open hearts and minds to hear the message of hope we carry in our first aid pouches. It is the armor that keeps the enemy’s bullets from diverting us from our sacred mission. It is the power that opens doors to speak into the lives of others. Use prayer, your powerful weapon, today!
