Is There a Dream You Can’t Forget? Discovering God’s Plan for Your Life.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had very few truly memorable dreams in my life. There is one though that I simply cannot forget. I want to share it with you today as you begin October anticipating all God’s plans for your future.
Many years ago, I had the dream of a battlefield. I have rarely shared this with very few but feel I must share it with you now, my faithful readers and friends. It was dark, desolate, without color or form like a shadow, but I could see in the dark that women were lying across its surface as if dead. Then in the dream I remembered the story of Ezekiel’s bones.
“The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breathenter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” ( Ezekiel 37:1-10)
As the dream continued, the women started standing up one by one until there were so many I couldn’t count them all…as far as the eye can see.
As I awakened, it seemed the Lord was trying to tell me something. He planned for an army of women to rise up for His purposes in this generation. And I was to be a part, calling them to rise.
Do you believe God can speak in a dream? I hope so, because I believe God can speak any way He desires.
So, this morning something amazing happened and I can’t wait to share it with you. In my morning time spent talking with the Lord as I journal and read His Word, I read this…
“The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings good news,” (Psalm 68:11) I happened to look down at the corresponding footnote (which I don’t always do) and it read, Psalm 68:11 Or a host of women.
The army mentioned is a host of women! Amazing! Are you one of these women God desires to use right now, right here, in this moment for this generation?
Let’s choose to be one of these women today! Let’s surrender our lives completely to Jesus Christ’s perfect plan, growing to know Him better every day. Let’s discover and use the gifts, skills, and abilities He has placed within us to represent Jesus to a world desperately in need of His touch.
I know your first response is either you think I am crazy or you can’t imagine God would want to use you since you are well aware of your sin, faults, and failings. Don’t be deceived. I can promise you I am not crazy but instead full of faith that the God of the universe can do anything He desires. And I absolutely believe His promise when He says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness,” (I John 1:9).
How can we do this?
- Spend time every day with God reading His Word, discussing it with Him in prayer, and listening for His voice as He gives you direction. “Come near to God and he will come near to you,” (James 4:8).
- Obey His Word as He is calling you and me today to stand up to fulfill His will and purpose for our lives as His women. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do,” (Eph. 2:10).
- Put on the armor of God each morning and evening according to Ephesians 6:10-18. When we wear His armor, we simply need to “ Stand, stand, and stand again” as Corrie ten Boom once said when I heard her speak. We merely need to stand in a defensive position while God takes the offensive position and fights the battle!
- Share the truth of Jesus Christ as the Holy Spirit directs exemplifying the fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) and speaking God’s Word as He leads. “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,”(I Peter 3:15).
Examples:
– Before praying in a restaurant, ask the server how you can pray for him or her as you plan to pray.
– Ask someone about their faith journey after sharing yours.
– Ask where they go to church. If they have one, ask what they most like about it. If they don’t, invite them to yours.
May Ezekiel’s words be true of us as we seek to fulfill God’s plan for our lives.
“So, I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So, I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”
