3 Insights Gained from the Great Reimagination

I was reading an article yesterday while waiting in the hospital for Reen to take an echo cardiogram. (Just so you know, the test proved his heart is in good shape so they do plan to “shock” his heart July 24th   in hopes of stopping the AFib caused by the Colorado altitude. If successful, this should cause his heart to return to its natural rhythm, eliminating the medicines he currently must take. All prayers are welcomed!)

The article I read while waiting described the results of the Pandemic as “The Great Reimagination.” I was intrigued. After reflected on this for several minutes, I realized they were correct. The Pandemic did result in “The Great Reimagination.” For the first time in many of our lives we began to reimagine what our life really could look like if we made different choices.

As we’ve discussed for several weeks now, if we choose to intentionally leave the past behind, we can step into our new future. The Pandemic, though unwelcomed, afforded us three important insights:

  1. Time Matters and Is Priceless when Spent with Those We Love

For a culture driven by work and proud of “busyness,” the pandemic forced us to stop and re-evaluate the use of our time. Social distancing and lockdowns demanded we spend more time at home or alone. The result…we began to realize how little time we spent really communicating with family and friends. We began to question the value of “busyness.” Was it something to be prized and extolled or did it rob us of one of the most precious treasures of our life…connection?

  • Accruing Money and Collecting Things Are Not Most Important in Life-

We soon came to realize that sadly, and unknowingly, greed had become a national pastime. Every decision at work and often in play became, “Will this make me more money?” Achieving a six-figure job, accruing wealth, and buying all the toys life can offer became our goal. The Great Reimagination caused us to stop and reassess whether these really provided the sense of fulfilment and ultimate joy they promised. We realized they came up short. As seen in the movie the “Lord of the Rings,” when things become our “Precious” we are ultimately left hollow, empty, and unsatisfied…leaving us with a wasted, meaningless life.

  • Choices Made Each Day Offer a New Opportunity to Experience a Life of Fulfilment-

God created us with a need to discover and fulfill His unique purposes in and calling on our lives. One of my favorite passages describing God, our Father’s, plan for us is found in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, “For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]” (Ephesians 2:10 Amp). Discovering His plan and purposes results in the joy of living “Your Refreshed Life.”

As summer is half over and we begin to prepare for the fall, I’m excited to walk with you through this process of searching out God’s very special and unique plans for your life. Next week we’ll talk about decisions ahead and how to make them with certainty and expectation!
