Have You Created Anything Lately?
I’m stepping out of my comfort zone to do something I’ve never done before today. In Googling Chattanooga activities, I ran across something called a Fiber Arts Guild held at the Bernina Sew and Quilt Studio. As part of her talented motherly duties, my Mother taught me to sew and embroider by the time I was eight. I used it a great deal when my children were little but haven’t sewn in years. I think sewing lost popularity as lives became busy, time constraints became challenging, and the ease of finding ready-made clothing simpler.
But in Tennessee, people value handmade items. I decided last year to make one handmade item for each of my children and grandchildren for Christmas, so my interest was piqued. Today I am going to make something at the Guild…they offer a different project once a month and it seems about 50 women show up for this event!
Why am I telling you this? Because I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our God who created us…our Creator God. As we are made in His image, creating is something we were made to do. Whether with our minds, hearts, or hands, creating is within us. We learn more about God when we do it and the fulfillment discovered after an accomplished project or task is rich.
Isn’t it interesting that after God created the world He proclaimed, “it was good”? Not just good… very good. We read the familiar passage, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). Do you realize that includes you?
Your Creator God made you and declared His work very good. I recently shared a conversation with Johnny Hall, a friend, and the Executive Director of OneVoiceMission.com and he said something that really struck me.
God not only created us before time began but we are told,
“For You formed my innermost parts;
You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was being formed in secret,
And intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were appointed for me,
When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]” (Psalm 139:13-16).
And we read,
“For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]” (Ephesians 2:10).
Before we were ever conceived the Creator God formed us, designed everything about us from our hair color, eye color, size, and shape and then determined His supernatural plans for our life before we would enter the earth. Then in His amazing wisdom and unfathomable knowledge determined the exact moment in time and place we would be born.
We are uniquely and beautifully made exactly as God desired and given the plan and purpose for our lives He ordains. We were created to fulfill His purpose for His glory and our good.
SO why do we question the mind of God? His master plan spans eternity, and He alone knows our part in His great epic story.
So, what have you created lately? When will you opt to stop and take time to do something outside the busy demands and challenges of your schedule? When will you choose to relax, reflect, and use your hands to create? I hope you try it soon. It’s amazing how it rests the mind and restores the soul.
I hope you will email and let me know how we can pray for you. As part of the Your Refreshed Life family we care about you and would love to know how to pray more specifically for your needs as we journey together in this life. Contact me at info {at} yourrefreshedlife.com
