Mastering the Side Hustle
What is a side hustle? It is defined as “any flexible, secondary job or income-generating activity pursued in addition to a primary, full-time job. But I think it can include any secondary activity that is in addition to your normal life. Life itself is a job…so a side hustle is something that can enrich and augment life. It needs to be flexible, something you enjoy, and makes money. I personally love the ones I can do from home.
I recently read a magazine (which I will be highlighting next week) that is absolutely filled with side hustle ideas and opportunities anyone can do. It not only includes women’s success stories, terrific tips for being successful in any pursuit, but most importantly the actual websites to learn more… something you rarely find.
The following are some of the ideas I found fascinating:
- Like seeing the sights? Earn $25-$100 an hour as a local guide taking visitors on scenic tours in person or on live-streaming video using your smart phone- ToursByLocals
- Like shopping? Undercover “mystery” shoppers earn $7-$25 per hour ( some $200-$300 a month) to evaluate a company services- Secretshopper.com, BareInternational.com and Independent Mystery Shoppers Coalition (IMSC).
- Is Reading Your Thing? Get paid $5-$60 every review you submit for mysteries, romances, or other books- OnlineBookClub
- Teaching a skill? Anything from crochet to baking to painting can earn you hundreds a month- Teachable.com. One woman on TakeLessons.com reportedly makes $9,000 a month teaching violin, another earns $12,000 a month on Udemy.com teaching bread baking, and a third made $1,000 on her first class teaching art at Skillshare.com.
- Love Being a Grandma? Rent a Grandma is real with hourly rates from $14- $23- RentAGrandma.com.
- Like completing Task for Others? TaskRabbit.com can make you an average of $380 a month doing tasks for others like planning parties, making decorations, or selling their things on eBay.
- Does Reviewing Products Interest You? Make $90-$300 for about 45 minutes of work answering questions for companies looking for product development opinions.
- Become Part of a Focus Group? Opportunities to join a focus group on anything from offering your opinion about medical diseases to politics can pay you as much as $670 a month.
- Are You a Freelancer? Look into Upwork.com for your area of expertise.
- Do you like to take pictures on your Smartphone? Earn up to $500 on Foap.com for any photos you’ve taken whether nature scenes, family pets, or vacations and receive $5 a photo while specifically requested photos can earn up to $1500.
- Do you Check Garage Sales and Estate Auctions? One woman earns up to $10,000 a month selling books on Amazon Marketplace found while garage sale shopping.
God prizes good stewardship of the talents and abilities He gives us. Is there a talent, skill, ability, or gift you used in the past but left behind, overlooked, or have neglected? Maybe it’s time to dust it off.
God illustrates His pleasure in the parable Jesus tells of the talent when we use our gifts and invest them for His Kingdom, “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ (Matthew 25:14-30).
