Southern Cooking Made Easy and Delicious!

Now you may be one of those tremendous cooks who never needs to read a recipe.  I confess here and now, I am not. My mother pulled out her Betty Crocker cookbook, (and yes, I still have one), every time she cooked or baked anything and taught me how to follow every recipe to the letter no matter what!

Well, ladies, I am pleased to let you know, since Reen and I are eating healthier than ever before and losing weight consistently, I am learning to substitute ingredients in my recipes. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I no longer follow a recipe “to the T.” I actually substitute ingredients and change up what is written in the book or modify online recipes I find.

My mother was also Pennsylvania Dutch, so (and things may have changed over the years) but growing up nothing we ate was very spicy and usually somewhat bland. Now that I’ve been following healthier recipes I’m learning about the wonderful world of spices!

SO, today I am recommending a Cookbook I can’t wait to try! It is The Southern Slow Cooker Bible: 365 Easy ad Delicious Down-Home Recipes. I found it on our recent trip to Massanutten, VA at one of my husband’s favorite stores, Buc-ees!

I usually never open any book that dares to compare itself to the Bible in any way but since the Slow Cooker is my favorite cooking friend, I had to peek inside. And the recipes look terrific!

Yes, I will trade cow’s milk for almond milk, all-purpose flour for almond flour or gluten free flour, sugar for Stevia, and many more substitutions to reduce calories or cater to our personal likes and dislikes… but being a Southerner at heart, I can’t wait to get started!  So here it is! Try it out! Let me know what you think!
