Children of the Resurrection?
Did you know that if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are called by God a child of the resurrection? In preparation for Resurrection Sunday soon to come, we’re discussing the impact of resurrection on our lives.
What do we really know about resurrection? What will heaven really be like? I noticed when reading the Bible recently, the religious leaders of Jesus’ time were trying to trip him up concerning the details of the resurrection. They asked him to tell them whose husband a woman would be in heaven, if she had married more than once. Have you ever wondered that yourself? They certainly didn’t expect his answer.
Luke records Jesus saying, “The sons of this world and present age marry and the women are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy to gain that other world, that future age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; and they cannot die again, because they are immortal like the angels. And they are children of God, being participants in the resurrection. In another translations it says “they are children of the resurrection.”
SO what does it really mean to be God’s child, a child of the resurrection? When we believe in Jesus, in the same way that Jesus is resurrected and alive eternally, so are we. We are living eternal life right now…imperfectly because of the reality of the fallen world we live in and the sin that we still struggle with…but as far as God is concerned, when we believe we become His children now and forever.
So in heaven there will be no marriage and we will be immortal like the angels as we worship the God we love. But most of all we will be then and are now His children, a child of the resurrection. Take the time to think about this today as you go about your life.
Are you living in Jesus’ resurrection power, expecting His intervention in every situation and issue you face? It’s your privilege. Ask Him to interject His resurrection power in your life situation today so you can visibly see His power and experience His glory! He stands ready and waiting to show Himself to you.
