Day 5 – I Wonder as I Wander
As you listen today, find a place of sanctuary in your heart to pause with wonder. Wonder. It is defined as “a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.” How often do you take time to be filled with wonder at the inexplicable truth that Jesus, God Himself in human flesh, came to our world to save us from the eternal death penalty for sin?
This beautiful, haunting carol expresses wonder at the realization that He didn’t have to do it. As King of the Universe, He could have stopped the event at any moment. But He didn’t. He came to set us free…He completed the sacrifice out of a love we will never fully comprehend until heaven. Let us pause in gratitude to celebrate such a gift today!
I wonder as I wander, out under the sky,
How Jesus the Savior did come for to die
For poor ord’n’ry people like you and like I.
I wonder as I wander, out under the sky.
When Mary birthed Jesus, all in a cow’s stall,
Came wise men and farmers and shepherds and all,
And high from the heavens a star’s light did fall;
The promise of the ages it then did recall.
If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,
A star in the sky or a bird on the wing,
Or all of God’s angels in heav’n for to sing,
He surely could have had it, ’cause he was the king.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. (Isaiah 9:6-7)
