Disguised Thanksgiving Gift?

When was the last time you remember having laryngitis? I cannot remember the last time I lost my voice, but 10 days ago it happened again. One day I felt fine, but the next, I could not make a sound. Reen laughingly reported it as, “The quietest week he’s had in a long time.”

Ten days attempting to communicate, trying to get attention by ringing a little bell or clapping my hands (the process we formulated when Reen was out of reach), and then only being able to whisper when we did connect, made me realize how much I take the ability to speak for granted. And I began to reflect on how many other things in my life I take for granted…things that really matter.

As we launch into this month of Thanksgiving, take 30 minutes today to list five things you completely take for granted in your life…and give God thanks. I am reminded of Paul’s words in the Bible, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Join me, won’t you? There is always something for which to be thankful. And just maybe today it is something you have taken for granted for years!
