21-Day Daniel Fast Celebration
Reen and I are celebrating! We are moving into our 20th year of marriage and ministry together! And what an exciting time it is!
When you think of a celebration though, I imagine you’re thinking cake, balloons, elegant restaurants, or elaborate vacations. Well, I’m sure some of those things may be involved in the future, but last week we started something unique. We started a 21- Day Daniel Fast!
What is a Daniel Fast? It is a time “set apart” to not only refrain from certain foods but to seek God in new ways like Daniel in the Bible. After Daniel was captured and forced to serve the king, he was told he must be trained, educated, and eat only the king’s foods. We read, “But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile (taint, dishonor) himself with the king’s finest food or with the wine which the king drank; so he asked the commander of the officials that he might [be excused so that he would] not defile himself. Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials…” (Daniel 1:8).
Daniel and several friends then ate the foods they chose (these are described in the book highlighted below) for a ten-day trial and became healthier than all the other boys the king had captured. The commander then gave them permission to maintain their diet instead of the kings. Later, when Daniel realized the terrible trouble his nation faced, he fasted as well. “So I directed my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting…” (Daniel 9:3)
Explained simply, it’s a plan that offers 21 days of devotional messages focused on the character of God and His care for you, while offering a tremendously delicious (Really! They are delicious recipes. I couldn’t believe it either.) eating plan, focused primarily on what we call today, “clean eating.” Fruits and vegetables are highlighted with legumes for protein. Each day you are offered your choice of three meals and two snacks.
Last Monday, April 25th, with the advent of another beautiful Spring, we decided we wanted a “reboot.” We wanted to hear from God anew and bring some fresh excitement to both our marriage and ministry. We feel we’ve entered a new life season and we can’t wait to see what God has in mind for the next 20 years!
I hope you’ll pray with us this month as we excitedly seek God to know His fresh plans for our ministry in this new season and as we pray for each of you, our faithful readers and listeners! We love each and every one of you! And as we pray for you, we’d love to hear from you.
