Merry Christmas from us and YourRefreshedLife.com!
As we discussed joy this month, I was reminded of one of my favorite Christmas carols, “Joy to the World.” Written by Isaac Watts in 1719, it was not originally intended to be a Christmas carol.
I sit here savoring the quiet as I spend time with God. Christmas proved to be wonderful this year in a new place where we know so few people yet feel we belong. We sense Jesus’ presence. We were not alone.
We attended Christmas concerts and played Christmas music throughout the house as we decorated and while working (we work from home). On Christmas Day we enjoyed the celebration of opening Christmas presents together, eating Claxton’s fruitcake (my Dad’s favorite) and drinking eggnog while sharing it in relaxed quiet.
I’ve come to learn that one way to experience joy is by intentionally seeking moments of stillness. Recognizing the holiday rush, I choose to carve out time for prayer and reflection. I encourage you, too, to create a sacred space where you can think and meditate on God’s Word, allowing the peace of God to fill your heart.
Remember that joy is not found in the perfection of holiday plans and programs but in the presence of God. I hope you embraced the imperfections this year, and found joy in the simple, authentic moments with those you love.
Now, savor the quiet with me and begin preparing your heart in anticipation of a new year filled with God’s Presence and plans for each day. Let’s get excited about all that He has in mind! Let’s seek to hear His voice and fulfill His purposes for this new year. Let’s pray to be Jesus’ love and light with everyone we meet.
Our world desperately needs Jesus. May He use us to touch the world!
