The First Key to a Successful Reboot
Whether you are in a relational, health, financial, career, or spiritual reboot, there are three important keys to move your life forward:
- Stop Saying “If Only…”
- Determine positive steps to take today.
- Celebrate and anchor every new victory!
This week we discuss the most counter-productive thing you can believe or declare. The most destructive anchor that the enemy of our soul uses to cement us to our unfulfilled, stalled, or failed area of life is the phrase, “IF ONLY.” If only I had done this. If only I had not done that. Clinging to this self-destructive belief represented by this phrase keeps you handcuffed to the past and clouds your thinking about the future.
Recently, Linda and I shared a serious heart to heart discussion about this and the outflow of this conversation is this blog. While recognizing and saying “If only I had followed my dreams earlier” makes sense to me…it hinders productive growth.
As much as we’d like to… we can’t change the past. But we can finally come to terms with it and close the door on that chapter of life. From a positive perspective, what we can control is our thoughts, emotions, and actions going forward. I recalled one of Paul’s key comments in Philippians 3:13,
“Forgetting what is behind.”
That is why it is crucial to say good riddance to destructive “If Only” thinking. When we remain focused on the past and stagnant with regret, we hold ourselves hostage from experiencing the bright future God promises throughout His Word. Holding onto our regret keeps us paralyzed in the past.
One key to living Your Refreshed Life victoriously, is to recognize this area in our life. Much as an alcoholic must acknowledge he or she is not sick, but instead hung over…we must acknowledge that we are the only ones holding ourselves stuck. Not until we begin to take personal responsibility for lounging in the quicksand-like malaise of our past can we begin moving positively forward.
We pray that this month will be a month of transformational victory for you as you consider your personal reboot. Next week we’ll look at the second key to a successful reboot, “Determine positive steps you can take today.”
