7 Steps to Reach Every Goal
One of my new goals for the year is to begin engaging, interacting, and building relationships with friends and new individuals on social media. I’ve both committed and limited myself to 15 minutes a day. I have a busy life but have come to see the value of building these relationships.
While scrolling through Instagram yesterday I found something worth the process. It was a video based on a study first thought to take place in Harvard but which actually took place at a different university, Gail Matthews study. When goals are written down they are accomplished far more often and writing almost always ensures success. It’s because the brain makes a “mental note” and begins looking for new and innovative ways to reach the goals.
So, as Spring explodes around us with its inspiration to awaken to new beginnings for Your Refreshed Life, I thought I’d begin April sharing the “how to” accomplish your goals and experience success.
Begin by grabbing a clean sheet of paper and list 10 goals you want to accomplish in the next year. Write these in the present tense, for example,
I buy a new car to replace my aging, unreliable one.
I earn a salary of…
I acquire my certification to begin my new career of…
Hypothetically, if you were granted one of these without strings attached or questions asked in the next 24 hours, which one would you want to achieve most? Which one would most powerfully impact your life? Circle this one. It should stand out to you almost instantly.
Now follow these seven steps:
- Get out a clean sheet of paper.
- Write this one goal down.
- Set a deadline for accomplishing this goal.
- Make a list of everything you need to do to accomplish the goal.
- Organize the list into a check list.
- Take immediate action.
- Do something everyday to progress toward your goal.
The individual in the video encouraged employers to do this with every potential employee and if they are willing to do it, hire them. If not, don’t. He felt only those willing to write down their goals would be successful.
Fascinating! My mother repeated an old saying, “If there is a will there is a way.” I believe with God’s leading and direction and His Spirit’s power anything is possible. Jesus tells us, “…with God, all things are possible.” (Matt. 19:26).
Let’s join in this pursuit so we can say with Paul, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever” (Ephesians3:20-21).
Let’s take action this year! If God placed something on your heart to accomplish, no matter what it is, don’t delay. Take the time to follow this process and begin to do something every day to accomplish your goal.
And please, let me know what happens! Contact me and keep me posted. I’m excited to hear your story of God’s ability to accomplish more than you could ever ask or think!
