Where Can You Turn When Bad Things Happen?

Impeachment. School shootings. Missile launches. Crime, murder and mayhem. Turn on the evening news and chaos assaults. You can never imagine what was placed at every person’s front door by the government when we lived in the Washington, DC area several years ago.…a pamphlet on preparedness for chemical warfare.  Talk about undermining your sense of security!

What promises get me through the hardest of times? There are two that comfort me when everything around me seems in upheaval. The first is, “Don’t be deceived my dear brothers (and sisters). Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)

God does not change. He is not fickle. His love and concern for us isn’t here one day and gone the next. God is always the same in every area of His Person and character.

And secondly, “And He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is his treasure.” (Isaiah 33:6)  God alone is the stability of our times in America, in the world, in our homes, and in our hearts. Because He is God and does not change, we can trust Him.  He alone provides the stability we need in all times but particularly in difficult times.

So what difficulty are you facing today? If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, you belong to your Heavenly Father God who loves you. He does not change. He is the stable place where you can reside and rest as you live “Your Refreshed Life.”

Draw near to God. Hide in His Person. Trust Him. Find refuge in Him. He will always be there for you. He will give you the hope and peace you need when life assaults…no matter where, no matter when, no matter how… He promises that He is your unchanging stability. When the world topples around you and all else fails, you can trust Him. It’s His promise you can count on.
