6 Signs for Emotionally Healthy Connections

This month we’ve been talking about relationships and the fact they offer an anecdote to loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Psychologists tell us that we are all still experiencing Pandemic Post-Traumatic Stress Disease (PTSD) and will be for several more years.

With the shock and fright of the Pandemic, we were mandated to stay away from one another and in many cases quarantine in place. As a result, we lost the stability of connection and relationship, an imperative part of a healthy life.

So, what are the six signs of emotional connection with others confirming you are on the right path to avoid anxiety, depression, and loneliness?

  1. Smiles. When you easily smile and it actually lights up your eyes, it means you sense a genuine connection and are comfortable with someone.
  2. Laughter. Laughter really is the best medicine as the Bible confirms, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones,” (Proverbs 17:22). Laughter is a universal language and invariably creates connection.
  3. Develop a sense of trust. One author explains that when trust is established, people feel safe to open up, embrace vulnerability, and share who they really are with another. Trust is imperative to any meaningful relationship.
  4. Silence is golden. Simply “being there” for someone in difficult times strengthens connection. There is no need for words. Empathy in silence demonstrates you care and understand.
  5. Communicate openly. Everyone needs someone to talk to and these conversations shape our view of ourselves and others. Communication forges deep connections. Listening is the greatest key to powerful communication. Everyone wants to be heard. Listen attentively and empathetically and you will make a friend.
  6. Body Language Matters. Learning to read someone’s non-verbal gestures, body language, and facial expressions forges powerful connection. It causes the person to know you understand them better than words can express.

So, how are you doing? Are you making healthy emotional connections? Would you like to improve in one of these areas? We’d love to hear from you.  Email us at info@yourrefreshedlife.com. Share your story. We’d love to hear it.
